In 3-D. Oscar nominee for Best Documentary

In anticpation of the December 8 opening of Wenders’s new 3D documentary ANSELM, IFC Center presents special screenings of Wenders’s (Wings of DesireBuena Vista Social Club) first foray into 3D. One of our biggest hits ever, PINA opened in December 2011 and played for more than seven months. Originally begun as a collaboration with legendary choreographer Pina Bausch, Wenders conceive the film as an attempt to re-imagine her dance on the big screen.  But when Bausch died suddenly in 2009, Wenders forged on, turning the project into a moving tribute to her groundbreaking work with the Tanztheater Wuppertal ensemble.  With longtime members of the troupe re-creating classic pieces, PINA delivers an exhilarating journey deep into Bausch’s world.

Official selection: Berlin, Telluride, Toronto and New York Film Festivals

“A heartfelt–and visually gorgeous–celebration of Bausch’s work. There’s vast grace and beauty here.” – Stephanie Zacharek
