A late-night salute to the dark visions of one of the most protean and distinctive of American filmmakers. Master of a multitude of genres, Stanley Kubrick (1928-1999) created movies that contained entire cinematic worlds, enriched by repeated viewings and a willingness to suspend the norms of regular, daylight living. The program includes Kubrick’s early films noirs, KILLER’S KISS and THE KILLING; the horror classic THE SHINING, starring Jack Nicholson at his most terrifying; the Vietnam War epic FULL METAL JACKET; Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman in the controversial EYES WIDE SHUT, the director’s final film; and the dystopian futures of 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY and A CLOCKWORK ORANGE.
