A downtown icon, Candy Darling was her own greatest creation. Born James Slattery in Massapequa, Long Island, she made herself into a stunning blonde underground star, with Warhol and Tennessee Williams among her fans—until succumbing to cancer at 29. Vintage footage, interviews and excerpts of Candy’s letters and diaries read by Chloë Sevigny paint a portrait of this singular and audacious life. With Jeremiah Newton, Jackie Curtis, Holly Woodlawn, Penny Arcade, Paul Morrissey, Fran Lebowitz and John Waters.
