Glen or Glenda

Tuesday, August 20 at 7:00 p.m.: Screening on 35mm with intro by programmers Elizabeth Purchell and KJ Shepherd

Clean-cut Glen (writer/director Edward D. Wood, Jr.) seemingly has everything a man could ever want: a good job, friends whom he shares certain hobbies with, and a loving fiancé (Wood’s then-girlfriend and future Elvis songwriter Dolores Fuller). But there’s a problem: there’s another woman in Glen’s life who threatens to ruin it all… himself!

Famously made to cash in on the media circus surrounding Christine Jorgensen, GLEN OR GLENDA wound up being something else entirely: a nakedly personal plea for acceptance and a masterpiece of accidental avant-garde.

Preceded by Joseph Horning’s 1975 short portrait of a Black trans sex worker named VALERIE.

Screening as part of our new queer series programmed and hosted by Elizabeth Purchell and KJ Shepherd, Cruising the Movies.
