RATE IT X stunned audiences and critics with its waggish and unflinching look at how sexism and sexual exploitation are embedded in American media and culture. The filmmakers go cross-country to interview men who sexualize women and profit from it. Their responses leave us gob smacked. There is the artist who proudly draws his “Chester the Molester” cartoons. The preacher who castigates Adam for treating Eve as his equal. The public access TV host who roves the streets asking young women to pose nude. The #MeToo movement and high-profile prosecutions for rape have raised consciousness, but, as this new restoration reveals, not that much has changed! IndieCollect’s 4K restoration was created in collaboration with the UCLA Film & Television Archive, with support from the Golden Globe Foundation, Sundance Institute, and Women’s Film Preservation Fund of NYWIFT.
