New 4K Restoration!

In a remote Victorian mansion on the island of Jersey in 1945, Grace (Nicole Kidman, in one of her greatest roles) raises her light-allergic children under the menacing constraints of her strict religious principles. When three new servants arrive and the children rebel against her discipline, Grace begins to question her entire reality.

“The show belongs to Kidman, and snugly tailored as it is, she’s surpassingly fine. Channeling both emotional transparency and another era’s larger-than-life diva glamour, her Grace is pretty, pallid, fragile and sharp-edged as a porcelain doll head. We’re never quite certain whether to fear her, or fear for her. Like great silver-screen stars of yore, Kidman does more than act here: She fascinates, holding camera and viewers spellbound.” – Dennis Harvey, Variety

“The sight of Ms. Kidman barreling through the murky hallways in a confused, determined rage, brandishing a dusty shotgun, is one of the most thrilling movie images of this year.” – A.O. Scott, New York Times

“Kidman is pitch perfect. It’s a clammy, ingenious film, one of the best studio movies of the year.” – Tom Charity, Time Out

“This simple, spare, and exhilaratingly old-fashioned haunted-house movie builds tension through a steady accumulation of mundane disturbances—faint sounds, open curtains, unlocked doors—which chip away at the psyche, onscreen and off… Every effect is carefully calibrated to tease out questions without offering an immediate answer, which lends menace to the darkness behind the doors and outside the range of the oil lamps.” – Scott Tobias, A.V. Club
