Making Waves: New Romanian Cinema

Wednesday, March 27 - Thursday, March 28, 2024

“Making Waves,” the oldest showcase of Romanian cinema in the US, returns to New York for its 18th edition, showcasing the best of contemporary Romanian filmmaking and unmissable cult classics.

IFC Center is proud to partner with the festival to present two screenings: the US premiere of Cristi Puiu’s uncompromising MMXX, a 4-episode anthology guaranteed to spark conversation and engage your critical eye; and Lucian Bratu’s landmark 1981 feature ANGELA GOES ON, offering the perfect companion piece and further context to Radu Jude’s provocative DO NOT EXPECT TOO MUCH FROM THE END OF THE WORLD, which opens March 22 at IFC Center.

Visit the festival website to learn more about the complete festival lineup, screening March 27-April 2 at IFC Center, Roxy Cinema New York and DCTV’s Firehouse Cinema, and get updates on the program, guests and special events.

The 18th Making Waves: New Romanian Cinema festival is presented by Insula 42, formerly Film ETC, in partnership with IFC Center, Roxy Cinema New York, and DCTV’s Firehouse Cinema. With the support of the Trust for Mutual Understanding, Blue Heron Foundation, Romanian National Film Center, Dacin Sara, and numerous individual donors.
