Movie Nights with Jem Cohen

Wednesday, July 15 - Thursday, September 3, 2009
Resolutely independent filmmaker Jem Cohen (Chain, Benjamin Smoke, Instrument) presents three nights of sneak previews, premieres and discussion with special guests including Ian MacKaye and Guy Picciotto from Fugazi and filmmaker/photographer John Cohen.
“Cohen’s music works are of a piece with his other movies. Fiercely intelligent independent films that mix documentary with experimental narrative techniques, they are haunting, hypnotic and utterly unique. They are filled with moments, visions, stray fragments of places and lives that directors fixated on spectacle would miss.” – SF Said, London Daily Telegraph
“Cohen’s freeform assemblages triumphantly assert a unique mode of viewing the world, marbled with a hypnotic, fugitive poetry of the everyday for once that overworked adjective, ‘essential’ is not inappropriate.” – Kieron Corless, Time Out, London
