The Cremaster Cycle

Wednesday, May 19 - Thursday, June 10, 2010

Held over through June 10! An epic masterwork, THE CREMASTER CYCLE is an evocation of the creative process by noted artist Matthew Barney. The five films, spanning genres and locales from a football stadium musical revue to a lyric opera in Budapest, encompassing a gothic Western, the Masonic secrets of the Chrysler Tower, and a motorcycle race along the way, were created out of chronological order, and each comprises a completely realized work in itself. Seen together and in numerical order, they travel from west to east to trace a metaphorical path toward fully developed form. Not available on DVD. Not now, not ever. Showtimes change daily.

The five films in the Cycle are presented in three programs–CREMASTER 1 & 2, CREMASTER 3, and CREMASTER 4 & 5–with individual tickets  available for each program. A discounted ticket for the entire 5-part Cycle, valid for consecutive screenings of CREMASTER 1 – CREMASTER 5, is also available  on select days. The “Cycle Pass” ($30 general admission, $23 seniors/children, $20 IFC Center members) can be purchased for the following CREMASTER 1 & 2 shows and includes admission to the subsequent CREMASTER 3 and CREMASTER 4 & 5 screenings, plus a single free refillable popcorn for the day:
