Monty Python Midnights

Friday, October 16 - Saturday, December 5, 2009

And now for something completely different! Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin ignited a comedy revolution when they brought “Monty Python’s Flying Circus” to BBC television forty years ago. We’re celebrating their achievement with a late-night presentation of the best of their big-screen antics. Our tribute includes all five of the Pythons’ features, plus three films directed by Python alumnus Terry Gilliam — JABBERWOCKY, starring Michael Palin; BRAZIL, also featuring Palin; and TIME BANDITS, co-written by Gilliam and Palin and starring Cleese.

IFC Center’s tribute to Monty Python is presented in conjunction with Monty Python: Almost the Truth (The Lawyer’s Cut), a six-part documentary premiering on IFC TV October 18-23, and the channel’s Python-a-thon of all things Monty Python, including episodes of “Monty Python’s Flying Circus.” An exhibition of original Monty Python movie posters from around the world is on display in the Posteritati at IFC Center gallery on our second floor.
