Green, noted writer-director of George Washington, All the Real Girls, Pineapple Express and others, will join us for a special screening of one of his personal favorites, Robert Altman’s 1970 Houston-set comedy BREWSTER McCLOUD, starring Bud Cort, Sally Kellerman, Shelley Duvall and Rene Auberjonois. “BREWSTER McCLOUD is a brilliant oddity. It wrestles awkwardly with Nashville and McCabe and Mrs. Miller as my favorite of Altman’s work,” David Gordon Green says. “It’s a comedic jewel of the 1970’s.”
“One of Robert Altman’s most charming exercises in cabaret humor and off-the-cuff modernism. Bud Cort is Brewster, a sullen sprite who lives in the basement of the Houston Astrodome, where he’s constructing a pair of mechanical bird wings with the help of guardian angel Sally Kellerman… With the then-nascent Altman stock company in force: Michael Murphy, Shelley Duvall, Rene Auberjonois, and John Schuck.” – Dave Kehr, Chicago Reader
David Gordon Green’s PRINCE AVALANCHE opens Fri Aug 9. Our “Lone Star Cinema: Texas On Screen” series continues weekends for matinees and midnights.
