Tuesday, September 24 at 7:00 p.m.: Introduction by programmers Elizabeth Purchell and KJ Shepherd

Shot over the course of eight years, pioneering gay German filmmaker Rosa von Praunheim’s ARMY OF LOVERS OR REVOLT OF THE PERVERTS traces the development—and splintering—of the American gay rights movement from the aftermath of the Stonewall Riots up through Anita Bryant and the Briggs Initiative at the end of the 70s. Featuring interviews with everyone from Mattachine Society cofounder Harry Hay to gay porn icon Fred Halsted and beyond, ARMY OF LOVERS OR REVOLT OF THE PERVERTS is a controversial and unflinching document of the ongoing struggle for queer liberation and a condemnation of gay complacency that still resonates all these years later.

Screening as part of our new queer series programmed and hosted by Elizabeth Purchell and KJ Shepherd, Cruising the Movies.
