Garrel’s (Regular Lovers, Jealousy) new film is a lustrous black-and-white portrait of infidelity as it capsizes an already shaky marriage. Pierre and Manon have established a fragile work-life bond, eking out a living while struggling to make his documentaries. Despite Manon’s devotion, Pierre has no qualms about seducing a younger women and taking her as his mistress—though he soon starts to feel as trapped with her as he does with his wife. But when he discovers that Manon has followed suit, Pierre’s bruised ego lashes out.
