Monday, July 28 at 7:00 p.m.: Introduction by programmers Elizabeth Purchell and KJ Shepherd
In the peaceful city of Leisure live Elvira (Claire Wilbur) and Jack (Gerald Grant), a happily married and even more happily swinging couple whose favorite pastime is playing games of sexual seduction with unsuspecting other couples. When Elvira makes a bet that she can successfully bed her painfully naive new friend Betsy (Lynn Lowry) before midnight or else Jack can take a crack at her obviously closeted husband Eddie (Calvin Culver, better known as Casey Donovan), they pull out all the stops to make sure they each get exactly what they want. As the clock edges closer and closer to midnight, will it be Elvira or Jack—or Betsy or Eddie, for that matter—that scores?
Adapted from the Off-Broadway play by future filmmaker Jerry Douglas (Both Ways), Radley Metzger’s Score is a tour de force of sophisticated comedy, filled with ingenious visual compositions and scorching sexual tension. One of the few sex films of the era to openly—and hilariously—explore both male and female bisexuality, Score is an essential piece of queer cinema history and easily one of the greatest sex comedies ever made.
