Hustler White

Tuesday, August 26 at 7:00: Introduction by series programmers Elizabeth Purchell and KJ Shepherd
A lovelorn anthropologist (Bruce LaBruce) visiting Los Angeles to study street hustling falls in love with one of his potential subjects (Tony Ward) in New Queer Cinema enfant terrible Bruce LaBruce and photographer Rick Castro’s outrageously kinky update of Billy Wilder’s Sunset Boulevard. Fascinating as a portrait of the Santa Monica street hustling scene of the early 90s and featuring cameos from local legends Ron Athey, Vaginal Davis, and Glen Meadmore, Hustler White is a fearless—and hilarious—classic of 90s indie queer cinema. And remember: “See it with someone you’ve paid for.”
Bruce LaBruce (OTTO, THE RASPBERRY REICH, GERONTOPHILIA) teams up with photographer Rick Castro in a wild re-imagining of SUNSET BOULEVARD set on the hot hustling scene of 90’s Santa Monica Boulevard. Lovelorn anthropologist Jurgen Anger (Bruce LaBruce) heads to L.A. to research hustling as a social phenomenon, but after spotting angel-faced hustler Montgomery Ward (supermodel Tony Ward), he falls hopelessly in love. Featuring cameos by Ron Athey and Vaginal Davis, HUSTLER WHITE is a roller coaster ride of sex, money, depravity… and romance!
