The Guest

Monday, April 1 - Thursday, April 4, 2024

Introduction by Caryn Coleman of The Future of Film is Female Monday, April 1 at 9:15 p.m.!

“The same year that she led the cast in IT FOLLOWS, and in one of her first big horror roles, Maika Monroe starred in Adam Wingard’s eponymous THE GUEST. As the skeptical daughter of a family who’s taken in by a stranger, hers is also a journey of discovering; of the truth and of powerful connection with a dangerous man.

In this neon-lit, synth-drenched thriller, a mysterious soldier named David (Dan Stevens) shows up at a family’s house claiming to be their dead son’s friend. As he integrates himself into the family dynamic and a string of deaths follow, they start to realize something is up with this violent yet charming stranger…especially the daughter, Anna (Maika Monroe). Set amongst the backdrop of Halloween, Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett craft a near perfect horror-adjacent film that explores the explosion that occurs when grief, hope, and PTSD collide. Also notable, THE GUEST has an all-star soundtrack.” – Caryn Coleman
