As part of our ongoing Short Attention Span Cinema program, IFC Center is proud to share restored cartoons from Fleischer Studios before our regular feature presentations.

5/23-29: Out of the Inkwell – “The Clown’s Little Brother”
Year: 1920

An early Koko the Clown cartoon featuring Max Fleischer as the artist and his brother Dave as the mailman. The cartoon features the ‘Rotograph’ technique which blends live action with animation.

5/30-6/5: Out of the Inkwell – “Boxing Kangaroo”
Year: 1920
Runtime: 5:46 min
One of the earliest Koko the Clown films featuring the use of the Rotoscope invented by Max Fleischer. Dave Fleischer was dressed up as the clown and traced for the animated sequences.

6/6-12: Betty Boop – “Language All My Own”
Year: 1935
Runtime: 5:54 min
Betty Boop takes a trip across the world for a stage show in Japan. Animated by Myron Waldman, the cartoon is known for featuring Betty Boop speaking in Japanese.

6/13-19: Aesop’s Fables – “Subway Sally”
Year: 1927
Runtime: 5:44 min
Produced by Paul Terry, the ‘Aesop’s Fables’ series were one of the most popular silent cartoons of the 20’s featuring a cast of animal characters with a moral at the end.
