In RABBIT TRAP (opening Sep 12), a young couple (Rose McEwen and Dev Patel) encounter an inexplicable (and not necessarily benign) force in the Welsh countryside. In anticipation of this unsettling new film, our new midnights series highlights four spine-chilling tales of folk horror and urban legend. Featuring Roman Polanski’s witchy and paranoid masterpiece ROSEMARY’S BABY (1968), Mary Lambert’s knockout take on Stephen King’s scariest book PET SEMATARY (1989), Virginia Madsen and the late, great Tony Todd in the chilling Clive Barker adaptation CANDYMAN (1992) and finally, Anna Biller’s ingenious retro inspired THE LOVE WITCH (2016). These films celebrate lore, secrets, and the unknowable — just follow the rules (don’t accept any good luck charms, cross that road, say it five times, or fall in love), and you’ll be fine.
