A major crowd-pleaser, THE RAINBOW TROOPS is based on a wildly successful Indonesian novel from 2004 and it became that country’s biggest hit of 2008. With glossy production values and a bittersweet pop song on the soundtrack (that’ll stick in your memories for days) this expert tearjerker is about ten students at a rural Muslim elementary school, trying to make it to graduation as life deals them one bit of bad luck after another. With a cast of first time non-actors, and set in the Seventies, this movie is a warm-hearted delight that gives mainstream moviemaking a good name.
