Part of “Rendez-Vous with French Cinema 2010.” Director Mona Achache in person.

Based on Muriel Barbery’s well-loved novel, this is the timely story of Paloma, a young girl bent on ending it all before she ecomes an adult.

Chronicling the hypocrisy she sees in her parents and others with her father’s camera, Paloma (Garance Le Guillermic) begins to learn about life from the grumpy building concierge, Renée Michel (Josiane Balasko). Balasko is marvelous, and the precocious Le Guillermic is a revelation.
