In the newest film from the acclaimed director of 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days, Cristian Mungiu, Matthias returns to his rural Romanian hometown after an incident with his job in Germany, hoping to reconnect with his young son and estranged wife. But the town seems to have changed in his absence, with distrust, economic resentment and perhaps something more lurking just below the surface. When a group of foreign workers are hired at a small, local factory, the tenuous peace of the community is disturbed, and frustrations, conflicts and passions erupt.
