WORLD PREMIERE
Tuesday, February 24 at 7:00: The screening will be followed by an on-stage Q&A with director Alison Klayman and an additional guest.
In the lead-up to Zohran Mamdani’s election as mayor of New York City, many of the city’s Jewish leadership, as well as pundits and politicians, worked overtime arguing that the candidate’s history of support for Palestine represented a threat to Jews. By inviting viewers into the homes of New Yorkers on both sides of the campaign, the new short film Scenes from the Divide unsettles this familiar story. Rather than a controversy over a particular election or candidate, DOC NYC alumna Alison Klayman (Jagged; Ai WeiWei: Never Sorry) reveals a fierce battle among American Jews over identity, history, and responsibility. Scenes from the Divide explores the story behind the story, uncovering a fraught struggle within a rapidly transforming community.
