Palme d’Or winner Kore-eda’s (Shoplifters, Monster) latest, adapted from the beloved manga, is a love letter to the artistic process and a meditation on friendship. Confident grade-schooler Fujino’s comics are adored by her classmates. But one day, her work is upstaged by a reclusive peer. When the two girls finally meet, however, Fujino discovers that the other girl has been her devoted fan all along. Bound by their shared passion, they become the closest of artistic collaborators, until a fateful event changes their lives forever.
