“NO SKIN OFF MY ASS is my first feature, a low-budget, punk-porn remake of Robert Altman’s That Cold Day in the Park, with me playing a lonely gay hairdresser who picks up a beautiful, seemingly mute skinhead in a park, takes him home, puts him in the bathtub and promptly becomes obsessed with him. As one does.

The skinhead has a radical lesbian sister, played by G.B. Jones, an underground filmmaker who is the head of a gang of anarchist revolutionaries plotting against the capitalist patriarchy. Meanwhile, my character is pursuing a somewhat more personal revolutionary agenda involving his naked skinhead houseguest and captive. Politics and sexual fetishism become increasingly difficult to tell apart.

The movie was partly inspired by my own relationship with a hustler who later became a neo-Nazi skinhead, which only intensified my fascination with the strange homoerotics of skinhead culture: all those shaved heads, boots, braces, uniforms and aggressive male bonding combined with a frequently violent homophobia. G.B. and I had already been playing around with the erotic and ironic possibilities of gay skinheads, punks and juvenile delinquents in our queer punk fanzine J.D.s, so making a movie about them seemed like the next logical lapse in judgment.

Shot in grainy black-and-white Super 8 for $1.95 with friends and a lover (the skinhead is played by Klaus Von Brucker, my boyfriend at the time), No Skin is part love story, part political satire, part fetish movie and part underground porno, my first foray into the genre that I have invented: agit-porn! It was my idea of a romantic comedy: boy meets boy, boy takes boy home, boy discovers boy may be a fascist.”
