Michael Moore’s directorial debut established him as one of America’s fiercest (and funniest) cinematic muckrakers. After General Motors closes its factory in Moore’s hometown of Flint, Michigan, eliminating 35,000 jobs, he undertakes a quixotic quest to hold General Motors chairman Roger Smith personally accountable. Along the way, he captures the devastating impact that corporate titans – intent on maximizing profit — can have on working class citizens everywhere. ROGER & ME won the People’s Choice Award at the Toronto Film Festival and went on to a hugely successful theatrical release via Warner Bros. Moore donated 20,000 free tickets to unemployed Americans, and shared his profits with homeless shelters in Flint, National Union of the Homeless, the UAW’s New Directions faction, and Earth First! In 2013, ROGER & ME was named to the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress.
