“I’m sorry. I know it’s not normal but I can’t help it.” Sheltered Los Angeles housewife Carol White’s (Julianne Moore) life of errands, baby showers and aerobics classes is shattered when she begins to experience terrifying symptoms following a home renovation. When modern medicine and psychotherapy fail to offer any relief, Carol takes refuge in a mysterious New Age community. Laced with creeping dread and arch social satire, Moore’s first collaboration with writer/director Todd Haynes is a disquieting masterpiece of angst and ambiguity.
