Best in Show: The Films of Catherine O’Hara
Friday, March 20 - Thursday, March 26, 2026
When Catherine O’Hara passed away earlier this year, the screen lost one of its most gifted and inspired actors. She was, as Maya Philips noted in an appreciation in the New York Times, “one of those performers who was simply a delight to see every time she appeared.”
Perhaps better known for her TV work in such landmark series as SCTV, Schitt’s Creek and The Studio, O’Hara was never less than magnetic in her film roles, too, from Hollywood hits to the unforgettable mockumentaries she made with Christopher Guest.
As part of the inaugural Art House Cinema Week New York, IFC Center pays tribute to O’Hara with a six-film selection of some of her greatest movies. Included are Martin Scorsese’s ultra-NYC comedy AFTER HOURS, Tim Burton’s BEETLEJUICE, Chris Columbus’s HOME ALONE, and Guest’s WAITING FOR GUFFMAN, A MIGHTY WIND, and the loving spoof whose title also describes our feelings about O’Hara any time she appears on screen: BEST IN SHOW.
