IFC Center: 20th Anniversary Celebration

Tuesday, June 17, 2025

On June 17, 2005, on the site of the historic Waverly Theater, IFC Center welcomed its first moviegoers. Now, to celebrate our 20th anniversary, we’re turning back the clock with a special one-day-only program featuring the films that inaugurated the theater—at 2005 prices!

Miranda July’s Sundance and Cannes award-winner ME AND YOU AND EVERYONE WE KNOW, which had its U.S. theatrical premiere at IFC Center, plays at 12:40 & 6:50pm.

William Lustig’s slasher classic MANIAC, the first in IFC Center’s long line of midnight movies, screens at 2:50 & 7:15pm, with Lustig himself appearing for a Q&A following the 7:15 show.

DA Pennebaker’s landmark Bob Dylan portrait DON’T LOOK BACK, a tribute to both the theater’s Greenwich Village neighborhood and its commitment to documentary, shows at 5:00 & 9:35pm.

And Yasujiro Ozu’s beloved I WAS BORN BUT…, the 1932 silent that launched IFC Center’s classics programming in 2005 and, five years later, had its first U.S. theatrical engagement at the theater (prompting a New York Times review 78 years after it was made), plays at 10:35am & 9:05pm.

All feature screenings will be preceded by Joe Stankus’s short MARQUEE, a black-and-white ode to our iconic signage on 6th Ave and the dedicated staff who keep it current.

Tickets for these screenings are just $10.75–the same price as 20 years ago—with IFC Center member tickets only $7.

Popcorn and soda are also available at concessions at 2005 prices all day long.

It’s been an honor and a privilege to play some of the greatest movies ever made for some of the greatest audiences in the world. We’re grateful to all the filmmakers and filmgoers who’ve made that possible.

More IFC Center 20th anniversary programming will be announced in the coming weeks.

Thanks for joining us at the movies, and here’s to the next 20 years!
